Photo Hunt

 Objective

  • A team-based scavenger hunt requiring participants to find and bring back digital photos of places, people and things.
  • Encourages participation from all team members. Use it for team building or just for pure fun! A great activity to use as a way of learning more about your own town/city, or a new location in which you hold a conference or other event.

Development Areas:

  • Cooperation

  • Organizational skills

  • Problem Solving

  • Collaboration

  • Communications

Time & Space:

  • Time allowance depends on the number of items/locations that the teams need to find.

  • Outdoors (but could be staged in a large indoor venue such as museum)

Participants:

  • Groups of any number, organized into small groups of 5 to 10

Facilitation :

  • Ensure that each team has at least one digital camera (or other photo-taking device).
  • Establish a time limit when the game will end.  All teams must return to a designated location.

  • Hand out a list of tasks/locations/items that the team must find.  They must take a photo of each assignment that includes all team members.

  • Be sure to include any necessary rules that will fit your venue, such as "no wheeled transportation," etc.  You should generally forbid participants from driving vehicles for safety purposes.

  • To add additional challenge, assign varying point values to each item, depending on the difficulty of the assignment.

Ideas for Photo Assignments :

  • The most unusual food

  • A group photo with someone famous

  • The biggest tree

  • A photo with a purple car

  • The tackiest tourist souvenir

  • A brochure from a specific public attraction

  • A paper placemat, takeout menu, or book of matches from any Chinese restaurant

  • The funniest thing you can find

Debrief questions:

  1. What was the initial reaction of your team?

  2. How well did the team cope with this challenge?

  3. What skills did it take to be successful as a team?

  4. What would an outside observer have seen as the strengths and weaknesses of the team?

  5. What did each team member learn about others?
