Free New Team Building Game

Balloon     Frenzy

• A quick, fun and energetic ice-breaker to help groups get to know each other. 

Group Size: 

• Ideal for any size of groups, but requires facilitators as appropriate

Time:

• A few minutes, based on how many rounds

Equipment  :

• A supply of balloons for each team

• Stop watch for each facilitator

• Whistle

Facilitation:

• Give each person on each team a balloon, with an additional supply in a nearby pile.
• Everyone begins bouncing their balloons in the air. 
• Every five seconds, another balloon is added. 
• See how long each team can keep the balloons bouncing before receiving six penalties.
• A penalty is announced loudly with the whistle by the facilitator when a balloon hits the floor.
• The facilitator keeps a cumulative score by shouting out "one", "two", etc.  When the facilitator gets to "six", time is stopped. 
• Give the teams time for a strategy session to improve thier record and then facilitate another attempt.

 Debrief questions:

1. What was the initial reaction of your team?

2. How well did the team cope with this challenge?

3. What skills did it take to be successful as a team?

4. What creative solutions were suggested and how were they received?

5. What would an outside observer have seen as the strengths and weaknesses of the team?

6. What did each team member learn about him/her self as an individual?

7. What other situations in life or at work are similar to  this game?
